01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Tucked along a backstreet in Kanda Jinbocho, Jimbocho Wine Shokudo ChatGatto is an intimate wine bistro highlighting ingredients shipped straight from Ehime Prefecture alongside low-intervention wines. While the unpretentious dining room feels welcoming and relaxed, each plate demonstrates refined technique grounded in the changing seasons of regional Japan.
Seasonal Plates from the Seas and Hills of Ehime
Woven through the menu are seafood harvested from the Seto Inland Sea and the Uwa Sea, along with the generous produce of Ehime’s rich soils. Rice and pasta dishes allow the character of each ingredient to shine through cleanly, from an Ehime sea bream and bamboo shoot risotto or squid ink risotto to house-made pasta such as tajarin. The meat offerings carry an equally assured presence, spanning game and regional heritage pork in dishes like Oshima wild boar braised in red wine, rustic pâté de campagne, and Hime Pork sausages.
A Varied Selection by the Glass
The cellar spans bottles from distinctive craft producers across Japan alongside natural wines from France and Italy. With options served by the glass, guests can readily explore pairings to match individual courses or the evening's mood—perhaps a rich, pleasantly bitter French Grenache or a refreshing white with crisp acidity to lift the flavors of the food. Snacking on small plates such as house-made naturally leavened bread, an artisanal cheese board, or fried gnocchi makes an effortless start to dinner or a relaxed backdrop for a casual drink.
Finishing with Desserts and Italian-Style Brews
Sweet courses provide a comforting close, including caramelised tarte Tatin, traditional Breton far Breton, and vibrant basil sorbet. After-dinner drinks feature coffee prepared in rustic Italian fashion—from drip-style Neapolitan brew and stovetop moka to espresso con panna laced with brandy—allowing guests to linger and savor the final moments of the meal.
Evening service runs from 18:00 to 23:00, and reserving a table in advance is recommended for dinner. Whether sharing relaxed conversation with friends or settling in solo for good wine and honest regional cooking, ChatGatto offers a reassuring neighborhood refuge.
